Port Wentworth - Doris L. Porsga, 94, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2018 surrounded and comforted by family.
Doris was born and raised in Pennsylvania where she met and married the love of her life Julius Joseph Porsga. They moved to Port Wentworth in 1953.
As a young woman, Doris was a devoted housewife, substitute teacher, and librarian. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's Club at Port Wentworth United Methodist Church and a regular volunteer in the Meals on Wheels program. She delivered meals until she was 91 years old! She enjoyed reading and beating every crossword puzzle she ever encountered. She dedicated her life to her family, friends, and the church that adored her. She will be remembered for her goodness, unending capacity for loving and giving, and her charming, quick wit.
She is reunited with her departed husband and beloved sister, Marygene Jeffries and husband Jeff. She leaves behind her son, Richard Porsga and his wife Vickie; daughter, Nancy Warden and her husband Donnie. The bereaved also include four grandchildren, Heather (Xiang "Shawny"), Joey (Becky), Charlie, and Tim (Missy). Doris also has six great-grandchildren; Ashely, Jordun, C.J., Elizabeth, David, and Justin. She leaves behind an orbit of adoring family and friends, but the sun in her sky was her great-great-grandson, Eli ("Baby"). She is also survived by her nieces, Karen and Kay and their families.
The family will host a visitation at the Port Wentworth United Methodist Church from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, February 1st. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Grovenstein's Sunday School class. Interment and a graveside prayer at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens will follow the service.
