Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Lewis Newman, a woman of faith, and a believer in Christ, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday afternoon.
She was born on August 23 rd in Savannah, GA and was a resident of Garden City most of her married life. She is the daughter of Birlee and Roger Lewis. She was married to her husband, Jack Newman "the love of her life" on December 23 rd and this year would have been 60 years. She started working at a young age in the dry cleaning industry as her first job. She worked briefly with Derst Bakery and then became a toddler teacher at Jasper Springs Baptist Church. She also worked in the nursery at Garden City First Baptist Church and kept children privately at home for a number of years before retiring. She always had a soft spot and a big heart for children.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving children, Jack Kelly Newman of Garden City, GA, Jerry Allen Newman of Port Wentworth, GA, Kelli Lynn Newman of Garden City, GA, and her last living sibling, Eva Joyce Jenkins of Suwanne, GA, all left to keep her memories alive.
She was predeceased by her youngest son, Richard Lee Newman; siblings, infant baby sister, Marilene Lois Brinson, Leroy Lewis, Betty Carter, Robert Lewis, Dean Carter, Roger "Billy" Lewis, and John "Johnny" Lewis.
The family covets your prayers and gives thanks to all family and friends who crossed her path in her life and your love and kindness shown her in her life. God bless you everyone.
The visitation will be on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home located at 901 W. Hwy 80 in Pooler.
The funeral will be on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at the Garden City First Baptist Church. She will lie in state from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
Remembrances may be given to the Garden City First Baptist Church, 35 Nelson Avenue, Garden City, GA 31408.
