Pooler-Dot Royal, 75, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 9, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dot was born February 14, 1941 in Statesboro, GA to the late Jim and Thelma Thompson. Dot was also preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Thompson. Dot was a 1959 graduate of Statesboro High School and retired from Wachovia Bank (formerly Savannah Bank & Trust) after 37 years. She was dearly loved by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who referred to her lovingly as "Nanny." Dot was a loving wife, wonderful mother, a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. All who knew her loved her. Dot was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Pooler.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Elbert Royal; sons, Greg Royal (Kristen) of Pooler, and Brian Royal (Tonya) of Bloomingdale. She is also survived by grandchildren, Bridget R. Holland (Chris), Justin Shuman (Casey), Kyle, Eric, and Aaron Royal; great-grandchildren, Hayven and Kenzley Holland, Leighton and Silas Shuman and Dakota Royal. Dot is also survived by brothers, Bill (Bert), Bobby (Kathleen), Jimmy (Ada), Mike and Marty Thompson.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Brooklet City Cemetery.
