Obituary

Mr. Doyle Johnnie Barnes, Jr, 72, of Rincon, GA, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born on March 8, 1950 in Baltimore, MD to the late Doyle Johnnie Barnes, Sr. and Annie Mae MacFarland Barnes.  He was also preceded in death by siblings, Gwen Goodwin, William "Bill" Barnes, and Doylene Barnes.  Johnnie graduated from Robert W. Groves High School in 1970 and later enlisted in the GA Army Guard.  He retired from the 117 th with 21 years of service.  He worked at (American Cyanamid, Kemira, Tronox) and retired on November 1, 2007 from Tronox with 30 years of service.  He was a Master Mason of the Acacia Lodge # 452 F&AM and the Richard T. Turner Masonic Lodge #116 F&AM.  He was a member of the Alee Shriners and the Scottish Rite.  He was a past president of the Effingham Shrine Club in 1987.  He was a member of the Chatham Artillery and was past president in 2020.  He was also a member of the Savannah Volunteer Guards.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Wanda Culver Barnes, whom he sent a love letter to in the fourth grade; children, Michelle Lancaster, Doyle Johnnie Barnes, III (Mandi), and Frankie Barnes (Amber); grandchildren, Jordan Lancaster (Cody), Cierra Fals (Harrison), Brock Lancaster, D.J. Barnes, Hunter Barnes, Hayden Barnes, Brayden Kroeck, Payton Kroeck, Wyatt Barnes, and Danielle Barnes; sister, Theresa Herring (E.), as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The funeral will be on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.  Rev. David Feldkamp and Rev. Elliott Sheroff will officiate.  The active pallbearers will be Hunter Barnes, Hayden Barnes, Brock Lancaster, Brayden Kroeck, Harrison Fals, Cody O'Brien, Domonique Williams, and Daniel Smith.  Members of the Chatham Artillery and Savannah Volunteer Guards will serve as honorary pallbearers.  Military honors and Masonic Rites will be observed at the cemetery.
