Pooler – Drew Owens, 68, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 6:15 p.m.
He retired from the C.S.X. Railroad after 38 years of service. During his tenure, he served as the President of the United Transportation Union for several years. He was a member of Silk Hope Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He also served as a deacon at the Crossroad Baptist Church, formerly Burkhalter Baptist Church. He loved serving others and enjoyed life to it's fullest. He was also a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Grace Everett and Talmadge Owens.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Durden Owens; son, Christopher John Owens; sister, Wynell Owens Gray; nieces, Melanie Gray Reiser (Randy), Tessie Gray Marsh (Charles), Lisa Gray Tebeau (Randal), Carla Gray Eubanks (Hal); great-nieces and nephew and great-great-nieces and nephew.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2015 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Silk Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Owens will lie in state from 12 noon.
Interment will follow in Elkins Family Cemetery in Pineora.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Silk Hope Baptist Church (Family Life Center), Christian Motorcycle Association (Run For The Son), Hospice Savannah, or Low Country Cancer Treatment Center, Savannah, GA.
