Our Daddy, Eddie Lee Brown, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024, with his daughters at his side. He was born in Giles County, Virginia on October 11, 1943 to Pearis Walker "P.W." Brown and Virginia Hare Brown. His family moved to Savannah, Georgia in 1955.
Eddie graduated in 1962 from Robert W. Groves High School. In 1963, he was initiated into the Journeyman and Apprentices of Local Union No. 188; he worked as a pipefitter until his retirement in March 2004. He became a Life Member of Local 188 in June 2013.
He married our mother, Sheila Taylor, in October 1964, and had two daughters. Although they divorced in 1980, Eddie remained devoted to her and supportive of her until she passed away in April of 1995.
Daddy loved classic cars and was a longtime member of the Dixieland Cruisers. Over the years he collected and/or restored several classic cars. He also loved spending time at the Savannah Drag Strip where he served as Chief Starter for many years. Daddy was also a member of the Savannah Shag Club where the ladies would excitedly wait for their chance to cut a rug with him.
Daddy was a simple, hard-working man. He was unapologetically inpatient at times, had a fantastic sense of humor, and loved to tell a story. His smile was infectious, and he loved to laugh. His sarcasm, quick wit, and effervescence is legendary as was his ability to string together expletives like poetry. Daddy was a gentle-spirited and honorable man. He demonstrated compassion and forgiveness through his actions and how he lived his life. And although our hearts are broken, the memories of his love and laughter will be with us forever. We know our Daddy is in the presence of God. He is reunited with those who he loved, and he is healed. We will love and miss him forever but rejoice knowing he is at peace.
Daddy was preceeded in death by his parents, his brother Danny Ray Brown, his great granddaughter Olivia Grace Stich, and his former wife Sheila Taylor Brown. He is survived by his daughters, Dana Brown Dodd (Stephen) and Lara Lee Eller (David), his granddaughters Lori Lee Stich, Analee Logan Dodd, and Pearis Abigail Eller, great grandchildren Nolan Stich and Madelyn Stich. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Walker Brown (Susan) as well as several nephews and extended family.
My sister and I wish to acknowledge Amedisys Hospice and in particular Lisa Moore, RN as well as Chequita Green, CNA. These angels cared for, doted on, and laughed with Daddy for just over three months. Their compassion, care, and support made it possible for us to keep a promise to our precious Daddy that he would remain home with us until his final breath.
Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, located at 901 US-80, Pooler Georgia, is entrusted with Daddy's final arrangements.
