Pooler – Edgar LeRoy (Roy) Bowers, 83, died on May 20, 2015 at The Place at Pooler after a long illness.

Mr. Bowers was born March 11, 1932 in Lobeco, Beaufort County, South Carolina. He graduated from Beaufort High School, Class of 1951, and worked for McLeod Farms until 1952. He retired from Union Camp Corporation (International Paper) after more than 40 years employment. He was a Mason, Frank F. Baker Lodge #46, and received his 50 year certificate in 2013. He also served in the Army National Guard. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Garden City and served his church in many ways. He enjoyed cooking meals for his church family and church functions for many years until his illness. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved to play golf. He is predeceased by his parents Luther H. Bowers, Lila Fletcher Bowers Hutson and Marion L. Hutson, and a brother, Robert H. Bowers.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Smith Bowers; one daughter, Debra Patrick (Louis) of Richmond Hill, GA; one son, Robert M. Bowers (Lisa) of Guyton, GA; five grandchildren, Michael Patrick, Ashley Herndon (Adam), Lauren Dumas (Walter), Kristen Turner (Jeremy) and Jasen Bowers; four great-grandchildren, Erin and Wyatt Dumas, Aubry Herndon, and baby Turner on the way; a brother, Marion F. Hutson (Margaret); sister-in-law, Billie Bowers; two nieces, Robin Crapps (Ronnie)and Scarlett Riley (Jeff), and their children.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Funeral: 10 a.m. on Friday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial following at Northside Cemetery in Pembroke.
