Obituary

Mrs. Edith Mercer Griner passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at home.
The Emanuel county native was a member of First Baptist Church of Pooler and the Win One Sunday School Class. She was a devoted partner and wife to her husband of sixty seven years who passed away February 20, 2011. The home was a special place for her children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many "adopted" family members.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Martin E. Griner; her mother, Velma Ann Greenway Mercer; her father, Elie Mercer; great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Cowart; the mother who raised her, Mary Lou Greenway Roach; brother, Quinnie Roach; sisters, Lutitia Roach Fields Carter and Mildred Roach Fields Gill.
Survivors include daughters, Ann Griner Sherrod and Jan Griner; son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Rebecca Griner; twelve grandchildren, Melanie and Bart Crowe, Jeni and Eric Prince, Mandy Harrison, Stephen and Selena Cowart, Kris and Denise Griner, Barry and Laura Cowart, and Malerie "Grandma's Baby" Sherrod; twelve great-grandchildren, Talara Crowe, Sierra Cowart, Joshua Afroozi, Brandon Afroozi, Gavin Cowart, Myah Cowart, Cooper Harrison, Mina Griner, Abbie Cowart, Isabella Crowe, Andrew Cowart and Harker Griner; sisters-in-law, Mary Griner Jones and Faye Talley Griner and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the funeral home.
Funeral: 11 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Pooler with Rev. Otis Hill officiating and the pallbearers will be Bob Woodruff, Tommy White, Jerry Morris, John Smith, Tony Hinson, Hugh Elton, Marlon Barefield and Jim Walea. Burial will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery.
Remembrances may be given to First Baptist Church of Pooler, Building Fund, P.O. Box 506, Pooler, GA 31322, or to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
