Obituary

Clyo – Edna Neidlinger Allen, 94, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023.

Mrs. Allen was born January 25, 1929 and was a life-long resident of Effingham County.  She was an active member of Laurel Hill Lutheran Church where she served as Sunday School teacher and worked for many years with the women's society.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, quilting and was famous for her raisin bread.  Mrs. Allen was a charter member of The Clyo Homemaker's Club, a lifetime member of The Georgia Salzburger Society, for many years an active member of The Effingham County Fair Committee and one of the founding members of The Dorcas Clothes Closet.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert H. Allen, Sr., in 2001 after 54 years of marriage.  She, also, was preceded in death by her parents, Ulrich Madison Neidlinger and Willie Mae McKenzie Neidlinger, brothers, Jerome and Madison, sisters, Nora Neidlinger, Elise Pszczola and Helen Bailey, and son-in-law Julian K. Quattlebaum, Jr.

Survivors include daughters, Ruth Edwards (Elliott), Jeannette Burns (Joe), and son Al Allen, Jr. (Rebecca).  Six grandchildren, Dave Burns (Erica), Laura Gower (Austin), Katherine Harper, Jody Burns (Ashley), Andrew Allen (Sarah), and Ashlyn Tebeau (Timothy), and 13 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by a sister Marian Durden and brother Max Neidlinger (Melinda).

She spent the last few years of her life at Lakeview Manor where she was treated like royalty.  Her family would like to thank her special friend and caregiver, Ruby Dixon, and also thanks to Beverly, Amelia, Rosa, Patricia and Ardena.  We also thank Kim Riggs and Regency Hospice for all their special assistance.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. followed by funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Laurel Hill Lutheran Church.

Interment in the church cemetery.
