Obituary

Mr. Edwin Moses Griffin "Ed", 93, of Townsend, Georgia and formerly of Meldrim, Georgia, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024 at his home.

Ed was born in Savannah, Georgia. He graduated from Marlow Consolidated School. Ed served his country in the United States Army. He then married Sallie Wallace, the love of his life.  They moved to Meldrim, Georgia where they raised their four children.He retired from Georgia Ports Authority. Ed was a member of Meldrim Methodist church. He loved all of the people of his community, and reminisced often about them in his later years.   He enjoyed spending time on the river,  fishing, and being the "life of the party". He was a best friend to his grandchildren and enjoyed playing with  his great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and remembered by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus B. and Columbia Morris Griffin, a son, Michael Richard Griffin "Ricky", two grandsons, Zak Murphy and Ricky Len Griffin, as well as all of his siblings, Edna Griffin, Otis Griffin (Elizabeth), Lois Hammock (Myrtice), Minnie Polk (Merrell), Myrtle Sanchez (Clayton), Doris Davis (Thurman), Layla Hammock (Everidge), Nell Dunn (Roy), R.B. Griffin (Pat), and Arnold Griffin (Darlene).

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Sallie Wallace Griffin; children, Randy Griffin, Ricky Griffin (deceased), Terrie Murphy (Billy), and Angie Autry; daughter-in-law, Sandy Griffin; grandchildren, Zak (deceased)(Nancy), Randy Joe (Stephanie), Jonathan, Michael, Cora (Dustin), Davey,  Ricky Len (deceased)(Becca),  Felicia, and D.J.; great-grandchildren, Easton, Sutherlyn, Nathan, Jackson, Willa, Michael, Brooklyn, Ashlyn, Griffin, Mera, Aela, Elayna, Waylen, Ali, Sierra, and Davey, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Meldrim Methodist Church located at 219 3rd Street.  The funeral to honor Ed's life will follow at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
