Edwin Wayne Johnson
1934 - 2024

Edwin Wayne Johnson, 90, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Orchard Lake, Michigan to the late Lawrence and Edna Rapps Johnson, Wayne moved to Savannah, Georgia in his early 20's, where he lived the remainder of his life.

Wayne proudly served in the United States Air Force, demonstrating his dedication and service to his country. After his military career, he was employed by Union Camp Corporation, where he retired at the age of 55. His 35-year retirement was spent doing all the things he loved to do including traveling, woodworking and fishing.  Wayne had a gift for all things mechanical and could fix anything.  He was generous with his time and talents helping family and friends solve problems.

Wayne was the devoted husband of Betty Brannen Johnson to whom he was married for 68 years.  He was a wonderful father to his daughters, Robin Bryant and Kimberly Melvin (James). He was a proud grandfather to Adam (Amanda) and Kevin Bryant and a doting great-grandfather to Meadow and Molly Bryant.  He was predeceased by his siblings Evelyn, Robert, Gerald, Florence, and James.  He is survived by his sister, Diane Johnson Skiba (Fred) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was a happy person by nature and never met a stranger.  While he enjoyed his hobbies, interests and being outdoors, his greatest joy was spending time with his two grandsons.  Whether watching them participate in sports, race dirt bikes, or just hanging out, he was a wonderful role model for them (and a lot of fun, too).

Wayne's life was a testament to hard work, devotion to family, and the simple joys that make life meaningful. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date to honor Wayne's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that anyone considering donating in his memory do so to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
