Savannah - Mr. Einar H. "Jock" Johnson passed away on December 24 at Westside Nursing Center in Port Wentworth. He was born in 1921 in Hartford, Connecticut of Swedish heritage. He had a long and distinguished career in aviation and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII in the United Kingdom. He was a chief international pilot with the Seaboard World Airlines, later Flying Tigers (currently FedEx). He was involved in state and local politics in Stratford, Connecticut, and retired in California where he was active in the San Diego Lions Club and The Southwestern Yacht Club. He spent his last years on St. Simons Island, Bluffton, and Savannah.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Carolyn J. Johnson. He is survived by a son, Stuart Johnson (Michelle) of Birmingham, Alabama; a daughter, Dana Johnson (Scott Pace) of Alexandria, Virginia; a granddaughter, Carolyn Michelle Pace of Alexandria, Virginia; a sister, Sylvia J. Hammer of Naugatuck, Connecticut; a foster son, Om Prakash Gupta (Jyoti) of Dayton, Maryland; grandchildren, Sagar and Supriya and a number of nieces, nephews, and close friends.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
