Obituary

Pooler, GA - Elisabeth C. Cole was born November 19, 1934 in Grosstein Germany and passed away on June 30, 2021.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce W. Cole, her parents and several brothers and sisters.  She is survived by her sister, Gisela Kosmalla, and sons Bruce L (Andrea), David (Bobby), Doug (Sherrie) as well as six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

As a native of Germany in the mid 1930's, she survived WW II. She was one of eleven children born to Rudolf and Valeska Kosmalla.  The city in which she was born was part of Germany prewar, however after the war it is now part of Poland.  In 1956 she was sponsored to come to the United States by Bucky and Margie Walters, a USAF couple she met in Germany, who lived in Greenville, SC.  She met Bruce Cole, an airman in the USAF, who taught her how to golf.  The couple were married on Dec 23, 1958.  She became a naturalized US citizen in the 1960's. The Air Force family had been stationed in Greenville, SC, Savannah, GA, Charleston, SC, Wichita Falls, TX, and Tacoma, WA.  Her family relocated to Savannah, GA as MSGT Bruce W Cole retired from active duty in 1972.  Elisabeth and Bruce remained in the area living in Savannah, Rincon and Pooler where they enjoyed playing golf together until her husband of 52 years passed away in 2010.

She retired from International Paper Company, formerly Union Camp Corporation, after 20+ years of service in Woodlands division as an Accounting Manager. She was a devout Catholic and frequent volunteer of Catholic charity groups in the Savannah area.  She was an avid golfer and former president of the Savannah Women's Golf Association.

She was loved by all her family, friends, and fellow golfers.  She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

A memorial mass will be held at 11AM on July13, 2021 at St Boniface Catholic Church, 1952 GA-21 S, Springfield, GA. 31329.  She will be laid to rest at Beaufort National Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the St Boniface Catholic Church Outreach Fund.
