Mrs. Elizabeth "Liz" Lorene Grier, age 80, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 11, 1944, to Fannie and Uyles English. Her dad's pet name for her was Adah. Liz was born in Savannah, GA and lived with her husband and family on Quacco Rd for the last 62 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Uyles Gordon English and Fannie Louise Jaudon English, as well as siblings, John English, Uyles Gordon English, Jr., Lois Miller, Georgia Grier, and Dorothy Oliver.
Liz was a member of South Newington Baptist Church and was known for her strong work ethic. No matter if she was volunteering at her children's school, working at Patty's Hallmark, cooking in the kitchen at Keller's Flea Market, helping children as a Crossing Guard, or transporting children to school as a bus driver. She was also a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was a fierce protector of her family, always putting them first. Liz would do anything for anyone and always put her heart into everything she did. Her unending generosity could be seen in how she cared for her family and friends. She loved to cook and work in the yard. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She left behind a legacy of strength and love to all who knew her.
She is survived by the family that she loved so much, including her husband of 63 years, Fred S. Grier, Sr. "Pop"; sons, Fred S. Grier, Jr. (Lisa) and James E. Grier (Monique); grandchildren, Whitney Jackson (D.J.), Joshua Grier (Kate), Taylor Grier, and Kayleigh Grier; great-grandchildren, Emerson Jackson, Arthur Grier, and Theodore Jackson; sister, Agnes Cowart, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral to honor Liz's life will follow at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Herb Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery on Little Neck Road. The place where Liz and Fred have lovingly taken care of for 20+ years.
