Obituary

Rincon - Elroy Joseph Holbeck Sr., born on February 9, 1939, in Fort Morgan, Colorado, has passed away at the age of 84 on October 11, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Roy, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris Holbeck, and four children (spouses): Roy Jr. (Kristy), Wayne (Amy), Becky (Robert), and Tanja (James), as well as his twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sister MaryLou (Harry), sister-in-laws, and several nieces and nephews.

Aside from his Savior Jesus Christ and his family, one of Roy's greatest devotions was serving and protecting his country. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and served for twenty-two years as an Aircraft Quality Control Supervisor, Truck Mechanic Supervisor, and Helicopter Technical Inspector. His service included two tours in Vietnam, where he received the Air Medal (7 awards), Army Commendation Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Service Star and 2 Bronze Service Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. During his time in the Armed Forces, he also served in Germany and Korea, as well as many other beautiful places around the world, and received numerous other honors. He honorably retired on July 1, 1984, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. He continued his career after his service, employed by Gulfstream and Lockheed Martin until his retirement in 2005. Roy left behind a great legacy in the line of service to his country and to his community. Roy enjoyed spending his time as an active participant in both his church and community. He served as a Deacon and was a long time standing member of Rincon First Christian Church.

As we remember Roy's life, we thank our Lord and Savior for the time we had with him here on Earth, and we treasure the memories of the kind, generous, loving, and heroic man that he was. His family has organized a memorial service to honor and celebrate Roy's life. The family has requested, that in lieu of flowers being sent, a donation to St. Jude's Children Hospital be made in honor of Roy's admiration for his own children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

The visitation will be held at Strickland & Sons Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 15th, 2023, followed by a service. Go Braves.
