Two years have gone by since our dear and lovely daughter, Emily Meghan Monahan, died unexpectedly in Savannah, Georgia. Emily's sudden death occurred on April 16, 2023. She was 21 years old. Time has not lessened our grief, on a daily basis we continue to miss her genuine, heartfelt, exuberant love of life.

Emily was born on August 5, 2001 in Rockport, Maine. She is survived by her parents, Michelle Butler and Jerry Monahan, as well as many other family members and close friends, all who reside within various east coast and midwestern states. Our family members who predeceased Emily, for them we also carry sadness within us. Those of us who knew Emily miss her incredibly, continue to mourn her death, yet we hold on to the positive memories we have of her, especially her love of people, animals, adventures. Emily was genuinely caring of others and embraced life and the specialness of it every day during her time on this earth.

Emily lived in a few east coast states in her lifetime, with the majority of her years spent living in the great state of Maine. Within Maine, Aroostook and Ellsworth were most special to her, as she was able to fully embrace her love of the outdoors in all of the four seasons, especially through soccer and dog sledding (Dakota was her favorite sled dog). Emily also enjoyed the discipline and focus she learned through jiu jitsu. Emily expressed her creative interests through her participation in theater productions (she much preferred speaking parts over musicals). Emily was raised in the Episcopal Church. We are thankful to all of Emily's teachers and coaches throughout the years for encouraging her to be her best.
