Guyton-Mrs. Emma Colson Shearouse, 97, a former resident of Savannah, passed away at Memorial Health University Medical Center on Thursday, February 7, 2013, with her family by her side.
She was born February 24, 1915 in Effingham County, Georgia, one of six children of the late Raymond and Edna Colson. She graduated from high school and was a great homemaker her entire life and a caregiver to her father and her brother-in-law. She married the late Hubert T. Shearouse and they shared 66 wonderful years together. She was a former member of Ardsley Park Baptist Church in Savannah, Sandhill Baptist Church in Guyton and was currently a dedicated member of Countryside Baptist Church. She was currently residing at Effingham Extended Care Facility in Springfield . She was a very dedicated Christian who was loved and admired by all those that knew her.
She is survived by two daughters, Erline Strode, husband Marvin, Emma S. Watts, (the late Ray Watts) and caregiver to mother, two sons, John Shearouse, wife Diane, Charles T. Shearouse, wife Judy; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Colson, three sisters, Louise Woods, Nell Pharis and Bessie M. Pate; and two brothers, Jack Colson and Emmanuel Colson.
The visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, 901 W. Hwy. 80 in Pooler, GA.
The funeral will be at 12 noon Saturday at Countryside Baptist Church located at 1201 Noel C. Conaway Road in Effingham County with Rev. Terry Wilson officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah, GA.
The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Countryside Baptist Church Building Fund, 1201 Noel C. Conaway Road, Guyton, GA 31312.
