Mrs. Ernestine Carpenter Nease went home to be with her beloved Lord on Monday, May
18, 2009 at the age of 95 with her daughter, Cheri by her side. Mrs. Nease was
affectionately known as Granny Who.
Mrs. Nease was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde W. Nease, Sr.; her parents,
Ernest and Fannie Carpenter; her brother, William Carpenter and her sister, Merwin Lee.
She was the oldest living member of Garden City United Methodist Church and had been
attending for 68 years. She lived most of her life in Garden City and lived the last 17
years happily at Savannah Commons.
She is survived by her five children, Melba N. Clary (John) of Rincon, Bubba Nease
(Betty Sue) of Rincon, Ernest Nease (Velma) of Springfield, Nancy N. Murray (Bobby) of
Garden City and Cheri N. Spence (Tommy) of Millen; sister, Thetis C. Brinson (Edward)
of Sylvania. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 6
great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The visitation for Mrs. Nease will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel in Pooler.
The funeral to honor Mrs. Nease's life will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2009 in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at
Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery on Dean Forest Road. Rev. Dan Pegram will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Nease's grandsons, Richard Clary, Cary Murray, Daniel Nease, Mark Proctor, Scott Harper and Craig Sharpe.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given to the Garden
City United Methodist Church Building Fund, 62 Varnedoe Avenue, Garden City, GA
