Eunice Boykin Peavy, 88, went home to our Father, to join angels and saints in His praise, reunited with loved ones who went on before. She died on Thursday, the 21st of May, 2009, at her son's home in Rincon, after having resided there for almost five months. Come the 13th of next month she would have celebrated her 70th Wedding Anniversary with her loving and devoted husband, Horace C. Peavy. For almost all of their nearly 70 years together, the couple lived in Port Wentworth, separated only during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and united throughout their married life with their home church, Port Wentworth Methodist. Eunice was born in Screven County on the 9th of July, 1920, to James Henry Boykin of the Black Creek/Sheppards Switch community and Madie Louise Scott Boykin of Jackson. As a child, she was a member of Middle Ground Baptist Church, and attended school at Middle Ground and at Newington.
Eunice was preceded to Glory by her eldest son, Terry Peavy of Port Wentworth, and by eight of her ten siblings: Evelyn Floyd, Mildred Smith, Marjorie Laffitte, Earl Boykin, Oscar "T" Boykin, Helen Brazzel, Doris Harvey, and Mary Busch. Left to cherish her memory are her dear husband, her son Robert Peavy and his wife Nancy Brodmann Peavy with their children Joshua and Lydia of Rincon, her son Richard Peavy of Bethesda, Maryland and Atlanta, and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Mock Peavy of Port Wentworth with her children, Clay Peavy and his wife Jennifer Cornell Peavy of South Guyton, and Carla Peavy McCutchen and her husband, Jack McCutchen of Pooler. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Peyton and Jackson McCutchen, her brother Gerald "Bubba" Boykin and his wife Margie Mixon Boykin of Port Wentworth; her sister Geraldine Boykin McGraw of Savannah, her sister-in-law Joyce Nance Boykin of Port Wentworth, her brother-in-law Cleatis Harvey and his wife Vivian of Port Wentworth, and by dozens of nieces and nephews.
Eunice Peavy was dedicated to her Lord and Savior, her husband, her family and her church. As a lifetime homemaker, she was a tireless worker at what makes a family run smoothly - loving attention - as "Darlin'," "Mama," and "Nanny." She also expressed her care to her extended family, and her church family. Eunice was a giver, having ministered with her time, her talent, her resources, her nursing, her love. She most recently participated in the Bennett-Howell Circle of the United Methodist Women, and attended the Oscar Bell-Kate Hester Sunday School Class, the members of which will be honorary pall bearers for the service. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the love, concern and support expressed by so many for their beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend. Even as our hearts grieve, for we miss her so much, our souls rejoice that she lives in blessed eternity. Her family will receive friends at the West Chatham Chapel of Stricklands Funeral Home on Memorial Day evening from 6 to 8 o'clock. The funeral service will be held the next morning, Tuesday the 26th of May, at 11 o'clock at Port Wentworth United Methodist Church, with graveside services at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on Bonaventure Road in Savannah.
Remembrances may be given to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416 or to Port Wentworth United Methodist Church, 201 Turnberry Street, Port Wentworth, GA 31407.
