Faye Marie (Rollins) Burke
Faye Marie (Rollins) Burke, 73, of Mount Airy, Georgia formerly of Jasper, Alabama, died December 24, 2016, following a long battle with kidney disease. She entered Jesus' peaceful arms at home surrounded by family.
Born February 24, 1943, at Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Henry Rollins and Dahlia Hodges Rollins Frawley. Faye graduated from Robert W. Groves High School in Garden City, Georgia, in 1961. She then attended the Warren A. Candler School of Nursing, in Savannah, graduating in 1964. During this time, she met her future husband, Anthony E. Burke. They were married December 29, 1964, on Saint Simon's Island.
Faye served as a nurse over 30 years, around the country and, most notably, as a South Carolina home health nurse and respected patient advocate, all while raising her family and indulging her passion for baking, sewing, fishing, and gardening. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Jasper, Alabama, where she became an active member of the Memorial Park Church of God, serving several years on the church board. She was also a member of the Jasper Herb Society.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Anthony E. Burke, of Mount Airy, Georgia; one daughter, Laura Ellen Burke of Mableton, Georgia; one brother, Ralph H. Rollins of Mount Airy, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Judy Rollins, one sister, Louise Groce of Perry, Georgia .
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Strickland and Sons of Rincon, Georgia, with Rev. John Smith officiating.
Interment will be in Guyton Cemetery, Guyton, Georgia.
