Franklin Lamar Stregles
Guyton – Franklin Lamar Stregles, 80, passed away on February 10, 2017 at Effingham Hospital.
He was a beloved husband, father, step-dad, papa , and pops. He loved spending time with his family, church family, and friends.
He was born in Savannah, GA on April 15, 1936 to Albert and Clara Stregles. He was a graduate of Savannah Christian School and also Young Harris College. He spent several years in Kansas City, Missouri during his younger years with family there.
Mr. Stregles joined Epworth United Methodist Church in Savannah at a very young age. He was very active in this church for many years. After moving to Effingham County in 1986 he joined Bethesda United Methodist Church where he was also an active member for many years until his health failed. He served on the Effingham County Campground Trustees for several years. He was a Lay Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and sang in the choir.
Mr. Stregles was a Master Mason and member of the Guyton Masonic Lodge #428 F & AM for over 25 years. He was also an active member of the Shriners in Savannah where he was a member of the Greeters Unit where he also held several offices in the Alee Temple.
He also served 5 years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for several Life Insurance Companies and retired from Delta Life. After retirement he worked several years for Sam's of Savannah on a part-time basis. His favorite position was door greeter, so he could "thank everyone for coming and wish them a blessed day". He was definitely a people person, he enjoyed life and never met a stranger. He was just a simple man, but had a passionately love for God, his family, friends, and church. His loving nature will certainly be missed by everyone and will live in our hearts forever.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 32 years, Laurie Dickerson Stregles; 2 step-sons, Stephen Herbert Dickerson of Merritt Island, FL and Darrin Jospeh Dickerson of Guyton; 2 step-grandsons, Brandon Joseph Dickerson and Phillip Brooks Dickerson of Guyton; a brother, Fred (Joyce) Stregles of Brunswick; 2 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; a great-granddaughter; 2 great-grandsons; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethesda United Methodist Church.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
