Garden City-Mr. Fred Meldon McAuley, Sr., 97, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in Green Cove Springs, FL.
Mr. McAuley was born in Savannah to the late Eustace Meldon & Gladys Bonfoey McAuley. He grew up in Chatham County and attended Savannah High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1945. Fred met his wife, Yvonne Johnson McAuley, while stationed in Port Orange, Texas with the Navy. They were married on October 19, 1944, returning to Savannah following the end of the war, and celebrated 69 years of marriage up to her death in February 2014. He retired from Union Camp Paper Company after 41 years of service. He was a devoted husband, father, grand and great-grandfather. He was Scout Master and Committee Member with Garden City/Port Wentworth Boy Scout Troop 823 from 1958 through 1966, and he was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his sons, Fred Meldon McAuley, Jr., and his wife, Elaine, Charles E. McAuley, and Richard H. McAuley; grandchildren, Grant McAuley, Monica McAuley Stengel, and her husband, Adam, Kyle McAuley, Kasey McAuley; great-grandchildren, Cooper McAuley, Alice and Charlotte Stengel; brother, Arthur Lee McAuley and his wife, Nancy, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The visitation will be on Saturday, December 10th from 12 until 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with military honors.
