Guyton-Mr. Gary L. "Chip" Mixon, Jr.,35, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2010.
Chip was born in Savannah and was preceded in death by his father, Gary L. Mixon, Sr.
He was employed with Gulfstream and was a member of Rothwell Baptist Church where
he was an RA leader for several years. He coached little league baseball and football with
the Effingham County Recreation Department and was currently coaching the Sand
Sharks.
Survivors include his wife, Allison R. Mixon of Guyton; sons, Gary Lawson "Trip"
Mixon, III and George Kameron Mixon, both of Guyton; mother and step-father, Wanda
H. & Bart Keller of Pooler; sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer M. & Jimmy
Hollingsworth; brother, Tanner Jay Layton; mother-in-law, Faye Rogers of Pooler; two
sisters-in-law, Georgianna & Donald Stevens of Pooler and Cindy & Andy McCumber of
Rincon and several nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
The Funeral to celebrate Chip's life will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Rothwell
Baptist Church in Pooler with Rev. Devin Bell, Rev. Sean Faircloth and Mr. Jim
Hembree officiating. Active pallbearers will be Jody Brown, Donald Moore, Donald
Stevens, Adam Stevens, Jody Jordan, Andy McCumber, Taylor McCumber and Ricky
Garland. The Sand Sharks will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Burial will follow at
Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery on Dean Forest Road.
