Gary W. Melton, (69), of Rincon, GA, passed away July 18, 2023 surrounded by friends and family. Gary was born to the late Connie Lee Melton and the late Rosa Belle Wilson Melton. Gary was a talented baseball and basketball player in his youth. Gary graduated from Savannah High School. He joined the US Navy and served on the U.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier.

In 1976, he married his loving wife of 46 years, Sandra Lowe. Gary attended Armstrong State College pursuing criminal justice. Gary became a successful insurance agent and served as a faithful insurance man for 42 years. Gary was a mason with the Frank F. Baker F & M Lodge in Garden City, GA. Gary enjoyed traveling and listening to live music, he especially loved the music of Bob Dylan.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sandra Melton; his daughter Elizabeth Beasley and her husband, Stuart Beasley and their son, Luke Beasley; his daughter Caroline Fischer and her husband, Wesley Fischer and their daughter, Riley Fischer; and his dear friend, Rachel Malone; brother Russell Melton; and many nieces and nephews.

Gary enjoyed spending time with his family the most in life and loved watching the Atlanta Braves play baseball and going fishing.

Strickland & Sons Funeral Home – Effingham located at 2460 GA-21 S, Rincon, GA 31326 will host a viewing on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 6-8 PM and a funeral service at their chapel on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 2:30 PM following a burial at Rincon Cemetery located on Lexington Ave in Rincon, GA 31326.
