Gene Usher Gordon
Rincon- On February 3, 2001, Gene Usher Gordon passed away in his home in Rincon, Georgia. He was born in Savannah, Georgia on December 26, 1929. He was the only son of the late David and Pearl Gordon. He was a United States Army Korean War Veteran.
He served as Police Chief in Port Wentworth, Georgia for eight years. He then became employed by the State Probation/Parole office and served as Chief Probation/Parole Officer for ten years. He then became Warden of the Coastal Correctional Institution in Garden City, GA. In 1967 he and his wife, Hazel opened "Gordon's Gulf" Service Station in Garden City, and from that came Gordon's Wrecker Service and Gordon's Paint and Body Shop are still in operation today, but Gene had since retired.
He was a member of Rincon First Baptist Church and a long time member of South Garden's Christian Church in Savannah, GA.
Gene was married to Hazel Gordon for 58 years. He is survived by his wife, two children, Lynn Grimes, Mark Gordon, and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Gordon. He has four grandchildren: Whitney Grimes, Lynsey Grimes, Kathlyn Gordon Canestrari, and Elizabeth Gordon. He has one great-grandson, Taylor Watkins.
The Memorial Service will be held 11 am on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in the funeral home chapel.
