Pooler-On September 23, 2011, Gene Austin Murrell transcended this mortal life to begin his new life in the green fields of heaven with his Lord.
He was born in Catchings, Mississippi, in 1931. At a young age, Gene joined the U.S. Army. He pulled two tours in Vietnam. Gene was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Gene was also a member of Richard T. Turner Masonic Lodge, and Chatham County Sheriff's Reserve. He worked for Bloomingdale PD prior to joining Pooler PD, where he proudly served his department and community for 8 years. He was a loving husband, wonderful dad and grandfather.
Gene is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Sharon Anderson (Marty), Sandy Lamb (Robert), Jenniffer Miller (Sam); grandchildren, Cathy Broome, Chip Glisson, Julie Marine, Randell Miller; and several great-grandchildren. Gene was surrounded by family and friends at his passage.
The visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church located at 320 Benton Drive, Pooler, GA.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church located at 320 Benton Drive, Pooler, GA. Mr. Gene will lie in state from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Church
Interment will be at a later date at the Georgia Veterans Cemetery in Glennville.
