Obituary

Meldrim-Mr. George W. Asbell, 84, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Mr. Asbell was born in Macon to the late George Eugene Asbell and Claudia Jones Asbell. He was a member of the Meldrim United Methodist Church and the Sons of the Confederates. He retired from GCR Firestone. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred W. Asbell and his daughter, Mary Jo Yarbrough.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Helen L. Asbell; son, George W. Asbell, Jr. (Robin); step-children, John A. Atkinson, Jr. (Rene) and Deborah J. Richardson; grandchildren, Jessica Asbell, Josh Asbell, Ray Yarbrough (Laura), Jamie Atkinson, Mitzi Salter (Kenny), Stanly Grace and Terri Carter; great-grandchildren, Mary Grace Yarbrough, Hampton Yarbrough, Mason Salter and Stacey Atkinson; sisters, Martha Sauls, Jeffy Peterson and Ann Oxley (Ben); brother, Jimmy Asbell (Alice) and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.
