George Edward Helmey, Jr. (Eddie) (Pops) 62, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023 following an extended illness.  He was born November 26, 1960 in Savannah, GA and lived in Guyton, GA.

Eddie was a 1978 graduate of Effingham County High School, Springfield, GA.  He attended Savannah Vocational Technical School for machining.  He retired from Gulfstream Aerospace after 36 years.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, and loved his family.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pam (Steese) Helmey; a daughter, Jina Perdue (Jay), 2 grandsons, Milo and Wilder of Richmond Hill; a son, Chris Helmey (Anna), 2 grandsons, Colton and Easton, and a granddaughter, Aniston of Guyton, GA; his parents, Eddie and Mary Helmey of Guyton; a sister, Tammy Dickerson (Paul), 2 nephews, Kameron (Ali) and Kollin of Guyton, GA; mother-in-law, Betty Steese of Springfield, GA; a brother-in-law, David Steese (Georgiana), a niece, Hannah Hayes (Tyler), 2 great-nieces, Summer and Lacey, 1 nephew, Nicholas Steese of Springfield, GA.  Eddie was a dog lover and leaves behind 2 special fur babies, Max and Pedro.

Eddie has requested to be cremated and not have a memorial service.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Effingham County Animal Shelter.
