George Ernest Jones, Jr.

Springfield – George Ernest Jones, Jr., 82, passed away December 8, 2018 at Memorial Health after a sudden illness.

The Effingham County native served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years and was a member of Springfield United Methodist Church. He retired from Union Camp, was a member of the Clyo Masonic Lodge where he had served as Past Worshipful Master and had received his 50 year pin.  He loved woodworking, turning wood, and had made many crosses for individuals and churches in our area.  He loved to grow plants, planting trees and citrus, and was re-introducing longleaf pine in our area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Ernest Jones, Sr. and Leona Leola Edwards Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Lynette Rahn Jones; children, Edwin Jones, Angi Gaskin (Dr. Ray Gaskin), and Susie Collins (Paul Southwick); sisters, Judy Rainey (Buddy) and Jennifer Hadwin; grandchildren, Justin Mock (Caitlin), Jake Collins (Jackie Tucker), Cheyanne Mock Jackson (Allen), and Jesse Collins (Maia); great-grandchildren, Cason Collins, Brennley Mock, and Alken Jackson; a number of nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Squeak.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Springfield United Methodist Church.

Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers remembrances may be given to Springfield United Methodist Church Building Fund, 210 Cleveland Street, Springfield, GA 31329.
