George Woodward Macon, 85, passed away on Thursday, March 01, 2007 at Summer's
Landing Assisted Living Home in Vidalia, Georgia after a long illness under the care of
Serenity Hospice. Mr. Macon was born on April 21, 1921 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Samuel and Carolyn Macon. He had resided in Pooler, Georgia from 1954 until he
moved to Vidalia in December, 2006.
He retired from the CSX Railroad in June, 1981 after 341/2 years of service. Mr. Macon
was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the European Theatre during
World War II from April, 1944 until May, 1946. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of the Pooler First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Juanita McCants Macon of Vidalia, Georgia;
daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Carl Hall of Vidalia, Georgia; grandson, Brian Hall of Auburn, Alabama; and granddaughter, Kelly Meyer and her husband, Chris of London,
Ohio; sister-in-law, Lucille B. Macon of Pooler; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 3, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Strickland
Funeral Home in Pooler, Georgia. Graveside services will be held on March 3 at
3:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah, Georgia.
