Obituary

Bloomingdale-Mr. George C. Ward, Sr., 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Ward was born in Charleston, SC to the late Gary & Gillian Ward. He was raised on Daufuskie Island and attended the local school there. He loved to return to the island with his family whenever he could where they enjoyed fishing, shrimping, swimming and boating. He was affectionately known as the "Governor" of Daufuskie. He left the island to work for the CCC and then began a career at Union Camp. His employment was interrupted by WWII. He served his country in the U.S. Army and received the following decorations, Eamet Campaign Medal with 7 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. He returned to Union Camp and retired from Union Camp as a supervisor in the paper mill after 38 years of service. He loved his family most of all.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline Tippins Ward; children, George C. Ward, Jr. and wife, Linda; Janice Clark and husband, Larry; Susan Griffin and husband, Tommy; grandchildren, Jason Clark, Shannon Galligan and husband, Casey; Angela Millhouse and husband, Jason, and Michael Griffin; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Ammie Brooks and Lillian Jefferson; several nieces and nephews and his caretaker, Michelle "Louise" Fernandes.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 1 p.m. on Saturday in the chapel of the funeral home.
