Bloomingdale-Mr. Gerald Bland "Papa G", loved by many, 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Gerald was born in Daisy to the late Troy Lee Bland, Sr. and Alma Hodges Bland. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte L. Bland, and a grandson, Travis Zipperer. He was a former Shriner and Mason, and served his country in the U.S. Navy. He also served as a police officer with the City of Savannah for six years, he retired from the GA Ports Authority and later worked at the Chatham County Juvenile Court, and the courthouse doing security work.
Survivors include two daughters, Rene' Zipperer of Ellabell and Karen Kabrich, and her husband, Don, of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Conner and Sydney Kabrich of St. Augustine, FL; brother, Bob Bland of Paducah, KY, and several nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from 3-4 p.m. on Friday followed by the memorial service at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.
