Griffin's Lake-Mrs. Gertrude H. Buckley, 88, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at
Candler Hospital.
Mrs. Buckley was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church where she attended the Ladies
Sunday School Class. She retired from Union Camp after 30 years of service and was
preceded in death by her son, Billy Buckley, Sr. She enjoyed her garden, flowers and
animals.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra & Jerry Hillis of Pooler;
grandchildren, Billy Buckley, Jr. (Monica), Robin Ansley (Chuck), Justin Buckley
(Holly), Lynn Miller (Tim) and Jay Hillis (Tonya); twelve great-grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews.
The visitation for Mrs. Buckley will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009 at the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel in Pooler.
The funeral to honor Mrs. Buckley's life will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in the chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Chris Roberson and Rev. Jason Rowe will officiate. The active pallbearers at the chapel will be the Deacons of Pine Street Baptist Church, Ronnie McDaniel, Joe Stegin, John Stone and Kenny Vandiver. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class at Pine Street Baptist Church and the members of the Win One Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church of Pooler. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery on Bonaventure Road in Savannah. Mrs. Buckley's grandsons, Billy Buckley, Jr., Chuck Ansley, Justin Buckley, Tim Miller and Jay Hillis, will serve as active pallbearers at the cemetery.
