Mrs. Gladys Hughes Boyd
Guyton-Mrs. Gladys Hughes Boyd, 85, died on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Westview
Nursing Home under the care of Odyssey Healthcare Hospice.
Mrs. Boyd was born in Pembroke and graduated from Bolen Draughn Business School.
She attended the C.P. Miller United Methodist Church for many years where she enjoyed
teaching the Adult Sunday School Class and was currently a member of the Rincon
United Methodist Church. She retired from the City of Savannah Water Department after
30 years of service. She loved to cook, especially cakes and enjoyed cross stitching. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. H.J. Boyd and brothers, Geriel Hughes and
Theron Hughes.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Andrews of Guyton; son, Herby (Robin) Boyd of
Guyton; grandsons, Christopher (Jennifer) Boyd, Aaron (Jaime) Boyd, Jason (Melissa)
Andrews and Stephen (Charlene) Andrews; granddaughter, Karen Andrews;
great-granddaughter, Olivia Boyd; brother, Robert T. (Georgia) Hughes of Pembroke and
several nieces and nephews.
The visitation for Mrs. Boyd will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at the
Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel in Pooler.
The funeral to celebrate Mrs. Boyd's life will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2008 in
the chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Larry Bird will officiate and Mrs. Boyd's grandsons
will serve as pallbearers. Burial burial will follow at Northside Cemetery in Pembroke.
