Mr. Gordon Edward Brooks, II "Tinker", 70, of Bloomingdale, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Gordon was born in Beaumont, Texas and was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Gordon Edward Brooks and Jean Brooks; mother, Velma Liston Synder; as well as a nephew, Miles Brooks. He served in the U.S. Army, 1st Infantry Division, 1st MP Company in Germany and White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico 1971-1974. He served and protected the communities of Lamar, Missouri, Liberal, Kansas, Beaumont, Texas, the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center as a police officer. In both military and civil professions, he attained commendations, certificates and awards. He continued to serve and protect in various roles after his retirement. He was humbled to be ordained as a deacon at Pleasant Springs Baptist Church in East Dublin, Georgia and Rothwell Baptist Church in Pooler, Georgia. He loved God, his family, his church family and friends deeply. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren consumed his heart and much of his conversation. Camping was a great joy and he owned Tinker's Toys RV and Rentals near Soperton, Georgia. Opportunities to make memories and travel were high priorities, visiting 12 countries and 26 states. He enjoyed reading the Bible and commentaries on scripture. Movies and TV police programs as well as westerns became a routine pastime when travel was limited. In whatever he did, he always looked for opportunities to share Jesus.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Brooks of Bloomingdale, GA; son, Josh Brooks (Pam) of Rockledge, GA; daughter, Rebecca Brooks of Bloomingdale, GA; brothers, Jim Wright (Carolyn) of Jacksonville, FL, Morris Wright (Ann) of Jacksonville, FL, John Schmidt of Beaumont, TX, Mike Brooks (Gennene) of St. Simons Island, GA and Brian Logan of Beaumont, TX; brother-in-law, Chuck Todd (Anita) of Concord, CA; sister-in-law, Anita Todd of Lacey, WA; grandchildren, Chelsey Holder (Chris), Tyler Peterson (Madison), Christopher Peterson (Anna), Emily Brooks, Sara Grace Webb, and Jacob Webb; great-grandchildren, Cohen Peterson, Amelia Peterson, Addie Peterson, David Holder, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral will follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 3:30 p.m.
The graveside funeral and burial will be on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Springs Baptist Church Cemetery located at 1589 Old Savannah Road in East Dublin, GA.
