Pooler-Mr. Gordon M. Samples, 86, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009 at Hospice
Savannah.
Mr. Samples was born in Emanuel County and had lived in Pooler for the past 32 years.
He was a member of Rothwell Baptist Church and served his country in the U.S. Navy.
He retired from Savannah Glass Company after 35 years of service and he enjoyed
camping and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Helen Samples of Pooler; son, Jimmy Samples of
Bloomingdale; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ammie Laura Saunders
of Garfield, Sally Jernigan (Louis) of Seneca, SC and Lucille Proctor (Jake) of Martinez;
three half-sisters, one half-brother and several nieces and nephews.
The visitation for Mr. Samples will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the
Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel in Pooler.
The funeral to honor Mr. Samples life will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2009 at
Rothwell Baptist Church. Rev. Devin Bell will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jerry Kirby,
Clint Shuman, Robert Byrd, Harold Langdale, Pete Cobb and Glenn Smith. The burial
will follow at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery on Dean Forest Road.
