Obituary

Gracie Marie Crapps Hodges, age 97, died Wednesday, March 12, 2025 peacefully at her home in Springfield, Georgia.

The Effingham County native was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.  After working more than a decade at Levy Jewelers in Savannah Georgia , Gracie spent the next 20 years at Effingham County Hospital, retiring in 1995.  The next 35 years she took great pride in her home, her garden and her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Tarver Hodges and her parents, Mabel Freyermuth Crapps and  Chalmous M. Crapps, along with her 9 siblings, Annie Sechrist, Lois Hinely, Ruby Crapps, Walden "Pete" Crapps, Ernestine Crapps, Herman Crapps, Ferman "Colonel" Crapps, Claudine Zampini, and Hubert "Sonny" Crapps.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Lay (Kenny) of Springfield, Ricky Hodges of Bartow Florida, grandchildren, Joey Lay of Springfield and Heather Lay Bota (David Morgan) also of Springfield.  She is the great grandmother of 5 grandchildren, Halah Marie Lay Crosby, (Aaron); Joseph Kenneth Lay, Ty Bradley Bota, Rylee Ann Bota and Drew Austin Bota.

A private family burial will be held at Effingham Memorial Gardens.  Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield at 11am on Saturday, March 15, 2025 followed by visitation and lunch.
