Clifford Gregory ("Greg") Rogers, 60, of Guyton, GA passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at University Hospital in Augusta after a short illness. He was born in Savannah, GA on December 5, 1960 to Othell Scarso and the late Clifford C. Rogers. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Luciee Deloach, and a stepfather, Joseph Scarso. During his early career, Greg worked for chemical plants for several years. At the age of 35, he had the opportunity to start his own business in the media industry, and was self-employed for many years marketing telephone directory advertisements.
He was known well in his community for his athletic accomplishments, including holding a state record for the longest football field goal in the state of Georgia as a high school student. He devoted much of his time over the years to coaching baseball in Effingham County, winning multiple state championships and a World Series Championship along the way. He also spent countless hours volunteering his time at his home and within the school system coaching and mentoring youth of all ages, and later in his life was inducted into the Effingham County Recreation Department Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all types of recreation, but his favorite personal hobby was fishing and spending time on the water, especially at his favorite place, Clark Hill Lake in Lincoln County. He spent many summers with his wife and sons at the lake fishing, tubing, and making memories.
He was a member of Elam Egypt Baptist Church in Guyton, GA where he served as a deacon, a member of the choir, and served as a minister to the youth. He was passionate about sharing his Christian faith with others, and being a witness for the kingdom of God. He was a dedicated husband, a loving father, and a wonderful "Papa Greg" to his only grandchild, Felicity, who was absolutely the light of his life.
