Obituary

Savannah, GA - Dr. Gregory (Greg) Emory Arnsdorff, 64, died Tuesday, Nov 8, 2022, at his home peacefully in Savannah.

Greg was a devoted son, brother, uncle and friend. Greg was Senior Director Client Services for Cognia/AdvanceED since 2018 and served as Director beginning in 2015. He also served as Assistant Superintendent, Effingham County Schools from 2006 to 2015 when he retired as a Georgia Educator after 32 years of service. Greg was a graduate of Effingham County High School in 1976, Georgia Southern University where he received a Bachelor of Science ('81), Masters of Education ('89) and Education Specialist ('94). He received his Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University in 2014. Greg committed most of his career to the students and educators in Effingham County starting as a Civics high school educator and then working as Principal at Springfield Elementary where he mixed an impassioned learning environment with a flair for fun and creative school activities and events. He always thought of his colleagues and students as a part of a larger family. He also dedicated his time and efforts to professional educator associations serving as President or Board Member, most notably as Past President, Georgia Association of Educational Leaders, Past President, Georgia Association of Curriculum and Instructional Supervisors and Past Board Member, Georgia Superintendent of Schools. As a 10th generation Georgian, Greg was also active in The Georgia Salzburg Society and enjoyed researching family genealogy. He was Past President, Vice President, Board Member and Executive Director, The Georgia Salzburg Society and a Past President, Historic Effingham Society. Greg enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was an avid traveler. The arts were also an important part of his enjoyment of life, and he was a patron of local artists and theaters.

Greg is survived by two brothers, Alan Lee and Patrice Arnsdorff of Guyton and Ashley Elmo and Allison Arnsdorff of Summerville, SC. Sister-in-law, Renee Arnsdorff (David). Greg is also survived by nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly: Grant and Tiffany Arnsdorff and daughter Josie, Dustin and Kirbie Arnsdorff and children, Whitley and Langdon, Garrett and Courtney Arnsdorff and their daughter Leena of Guyton and Bryson, John and Martha Elizabeth Arnsdorff of Summerville, SC.

A celebration of the life of Dr. Gregory E. Arnsdorff will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1984 GA Hwy 21 N., Springfield, GA 31329, the Rev. Dr. Robert (Bob) LeFavi officiating. The family will receive friends/family beginning at 1:00 p.m. before the church service.
