Savannah-Gysbertus Hendrikus van de Biezenbos (Bert), 93, born in Amersfoort, The Netherlands, died on March 8, 2015.
He moved to Canada in 1952, lived there until emigrating to the USA in 1961 to Savannah to work for Critz Buick. After seven years, he started teaching for the Voc-Tech school and became Industrial Coordination of training classes in 3 counties before being hired by Gruman (Gulfstream) as Safety Manager and retiring from the engineering department in 1989. While still in Holland, during the second World War, he served with the English and Canadian troops and the OD – a unit that was to keep civil order to prevent looting if and when the German army left the country. Under this cover, Bert was able to supply information to the Allies. Bert was educated in the Nederlands Luchrtvarrd Institute of Utrecht and continued his education here in the USA. He became a nationalized citizen in 1967. He was a member of Zerubbabel Lodge No. 15 F & AM, and served on the Red Cross Board. Bert was preceded in death by his father and mother, Cornelis D. v/d Biezenbos and Neeltj v/d Broek Biezenbos; his first wife, and mother of his children, Jacomina Cornelia (Miep) van Buuren Biezenbos; his oldest son, Raft R. v/d Biezenbos, and his sister, Jannige (Jenny) v/d Biezenbos, and her husband, Arie.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Coleen Rahn v/d Biezenbos; sons, Frank F. Biezenbos (Dianne), Case Biezenbos (Mary), Robert Biezenbos (Kathy), and Marbeth Shay, widow of Raf; step-sons, Wyndham L. Stewart, and Gregory R. Stewart; a cousin who is like a brother, John van Horn (Millie); ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, and several nephews in Holland.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Bonaventure Cemetery.
