Harold "Donald" Goss
Clyo – Harold "Donald" Goss, 87, passed from this world into the Loving Arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 19, 2016 while surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born in Wheeler County on July 29, 1929 to the late Mallory Ryals Goss Purcell and Henry Allen Goss. Don was 9 months old when he lost his paternal father to an accidental death. Mallory later met and married Benjamin F. Purcell who raised and loved Don as his own son. Don was a proud Marine and a Korean War Veteran. He was self-employed most of his life. He started several family owned businesses including one of Savannah's first campgrounds, Bellaire Woods on the Ogeechee River. He never met a stranger and trusted with a kinship love and fought for what was right with fervor and passion. Don loved fishing, boxing, creating something from nothing (and we mean nothing), and game fowl breeding. He developed land and built unusual houses throughout his life. All this, with his wife of 66 years, Becky by his side. Becky and Don moved a total of 42 times before placing the parking brake on in Clyo, Georgia. In his later years, Don was well known for building their last home out of shipping containers….a feat that he accomplished while in his late 70's. Don's creativity, enduring perseverance, jovial personality, and gypsy spirit touched many lives. His family and friends will miss him but all rejoice with his wishes to go home and meet his father, Henry Allen, to hold his "Uncle Ben" and his mother Mallory…And to finally embrace his Heavenly Father.
Survivors include wife, Rebecca Sims Goss; son, Guy Allen Goss (Michele); daughter, Donna Goss Hellmann (Keith); grandson, Kurt Patrick Hellmann (Erika); great-grandson, Emerson; and his loving dog, Duke.
