Obituary

Bloomingdale-Mr. Harper L. Bragg, Sr., 96, went to wait on his loving wife at the pearly gates of Heaven on November 14, 2013. He was born November 25, 1916 to the late Inez and and Ethel (Hattaway) Bragg. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Royal and his grandsons, Daniel Hardeman and Tony Sheffield and son-in-law, Ronnie Nixon. He had 9 siblings and is survived by his brother, Lilton Bragg and his sister, Virginia Necessary. He is also survived by his children, Ann (Lavon) Sheffield, Harper L. Bragg, Jr. (Donna), Jill (Johnny) Baker, Jean (Danny) Polk, Mike Bragg, Bonnie (Charlie) Bowers, Sheri (Randy) Hardeman, David (Pam) Bragg and son-in-law, Talmadge Royal. He was a master carpenter and his passion in life was farming and he always had a beautiful garden. He turned his life over to the Lord as an adult and spent the last 50 years of his life spreading the word and serving the Lord. He had 63 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always happy to see his family. He taught his family about hard work and dedication and always gave them a warm smile and a loving hug when he saw them. He had a great sense of humor and would always brighten the room when he walked in. He was married to Mildred Bragg for 70 years and they were together in the final minutes of their lives. He was a member of South Newington Baptist Church. The visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2013 in the chapel of the funeral home. The funeral to honor Mr. Bragg's life was held at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the South Newington Baptist Church with Rev. Steve McCoy officiating. His grandsons served has pallbearers. Burial followed at Westside Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph's Hospital for the care in the hours preceeding his death.
