Harriet Elizabeth Zeigler Helmly

Rincon- Harriet Elizabeth Zeigler Helmly passed away on January 7, 2019 in her home.

She was born on March 16, 1939 to her parents, George A. Zeigler and Maud E. Zeigler. She

was baptized on April 30, 1939 and confirmed on March 25, 1951 at Jerusalem Lutheran

Church. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Rincon, Georgia where she sang in the choir.

The Effingham County, Georgia native graduated from Effingham County High School in 1957

and later from Newberry College in 1961 with a teaching degree. She taught a few years in

Chatham County, Georgia and later worked several years with the Girl Scouts in Virginia. She

returned to teaching in Effingham County, Georgia where she retired in 1997, with 34 years of

teaching experience.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, G. Allen Zeigler.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Dillard Franklyn Helmly; son and daughter in law,

Slade F. and Amy Helmly; two granddaughters, Annabeth and Saralyn Helmly; brother and

sister in law, Ray and Jane Zeigler; sister in law, Caroline Zeigler and many nieces and

nephews.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church.  Mrs. Helmly will lie in state from 10 a.m.

Interment will be in Rincon Cemetery.

Memorials should be given in memory of Harriet and sent to St. John's Lutheran Church, P.O.

Box 270, Rincon, Ga. 31326.
