William Harvey Kieffer
Springfield- William Harvey Kieffer, 74, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 after a long illness.
He was a member of Springfield United Methodist Church and the Savannah River Men's Supper Club. He was a 1961 graduate of Effingham County High School, where he held various leadership positions in the FFA program and enjoyed showing livestock. An avid outdoorsman, Harvey enjoyed local deer and turkey hunting. He also travelled extensively in North and South America in pursuit of big game, doves, and water fowl. He also enjoyed Alaskan salmon fishing with his children, grandson and friends. Of all his hobbies, he was happiest spending time on his farm with his family, especially his grandchildren, on his tractor, lawnmower, and Kubota.
A lifelong contractor and real estate developer, he built many residential and commercial structures around Effingham and surrounding counties. He was instrumental in the construction and fruition of New Ebenezer Retreat Center, Treutlen House, and Veteran's Park of Effingham County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Newton Pierce and Isabel Webb Kieffer, and his brother, Newton Eugene Kieffer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Oglesby Kieffer; a daughter, Rhonda Kieffer Shearouse (Randy): sons, Ashley (Tracy), John (Elizabeth), and Phil Kieffer (Brandi); nine grandchildren, Kieffer Shearouse, Annah Shearouse, Grace Kieffer, Isabel Kieffer, Bryan Kieffer, Owen Kieffer, William Kieffer, Newton Kieffer, and John Ross Kieffer; brother, Allen "Butch" Kieffer (Ginger); sisters, Carolyn Conaway and Rosanne Brant (Greg); numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved and faithful dog, Lily.
Visitation: 6-8 pm Thursday, November 10, 2016 in the funeral home.
Funeral: 1 pm Friday, November 11, 2016 at Springfield United Methodist Church.
Interment: Stillwell Cemetery
