Helen was a homemaker for the last 15 plus years and greatly enjoyed that down time. Although she was raised on a farm outside Pembroke, GA she was very much a city girl her whole life after high school. Helen enjoyed a variety of different jobs throughout her life but her 2 favorites were being a desk clerk at Days Inn by the old airport in Savannah and as a waitress, cook, cashier at Uncle Al's Restaurant and Nut Shop in Terre Haute, IN.
Helen was happy to finally retire with her husband Steve to Rincon, GA in 2012 so she could spend more time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grands. Helen loved life and was always the first to strike up conversations with strangers to develop new friendships. She loved thrift store shopping, eating out, and watching any and all comedies. She was also an avid fan of football, but especially, the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning because he was THE BEST player in the history of football according to mom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carol Floyd and Frances Smith Floyd; and husband, MSGT Stephen C. Wharton, U.S. Air Force Retired; brother, Harley Carol Floyd, Jr.; and 3 grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021 at the funeral home followed by funeral services at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel.
Interment will follow in Rincon Cemetery.
