Obituary

Mrs. Helen Martin, 81, of Pooler, GA, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 15, 2021.

Helen was born in Alloa, Scotland to the late Cornelius Lee and Helen "Nell" Martin Lee. After meeting her future husband at the age of 5, Neil and Helen were married years later on September 2, 1961. The family moved from their beautiful homeland of Scotland to America in 1975 for a lifetime of adventures that included many treasured family pets, a tiny pop up camper, the Bob Hall Pier in Corpus Christi, Canyon Lake, Southern California, and her favorite place to people watch and play the slot machines, Las Vegas. The family enjoyed living in Seguin, Texas, until relocating to Pooler, Georgia in 2007. Helen made fast friends in Pooler with precious neighbors who quickly became family, those she came into contact with at Publix, and she fell in love with everyone who attended Gateway Church. As her dementia progressed, she never forgot that Sundays were for Gateway and her beloved Pastor.

Helen's dream was to become a librarian, however she stopped attending college when she was blessed with her children and felt her life was complete. At least she thought it was, until the birth of her grandson, Campbell. He quickly became the favorite and has remained so ever since.

Helen was employed by the Alloa Library in Scotland, then after moving to America, as a library assistant at Texas Lutheran University for over 20 years. She was a proud member of Gateway Church and was baptized a few years ago on the same day as her daughter and grandson. She will be remembered not only as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, but also as an extremely loving, selfless, comical, wee Scottish lady who fiercely loved her family, the television program Monk, How Great Thou Art, the bagpipes, anything tartan, knitting for those she loved, singing Gaelic songs and dancing throughout the house.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, Neil; children, Catriona (Glenn) and Grant (Lynette), and her favorite grandson, Campbell.

The family would like to thank family and friends who have provided love and support over the past few years, Gateway Church, and Compassus Hospice, particularly Carolyn and Tanya.

A celebration of Helen's life will be will be held in the near future at Gateway Church located at 1702 Pine Barren Road, Bloomingdale, GA.
