Meldrim-Mrs. Helen T. Slater, 84, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Hospice Savannah.
Mrs. Helen was born in Savannah to the late Fred & Maude Tidwell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd B. "L.B." Slater; a son, Lloyd Edmond Slater; step-father, Tillman Parker and her step-mother, Margaret Tidwell. She retired from Certainteed and was a member of the Meldrim United Methodist Church where she attended the Adult Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James S. & Joan Slater; grandchildren, Jared Slater and Jill Slater and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral to celebrate Mrs. Slater's life was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Meldrim United Methodist Church. Dr. Edwin Willis and Dr. Rudolph Starling officiated. Music was provided by Mrs. Bonnie Meeks. Active pallbearers were Ernie Slater, Jody Slater, Ronnie Purnell, Austin Purnell, Gary Oglesby and Trevor Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Adult Sunday School Class. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
