Helen Sercer Stokes
Guyton – Helen Sercer Stokes, 93, passed away May 4, 2017 at her residence.
Born in Hawkinsville, GA on March 10, 1924 she moved to Savannah at age 10. She retired from Memorial Medical Center, was a charter member of Savannah Christian Church, charter member of Rincon First Christian Church where she remained active until her death. She taught Sunday School, Children's Church, served on the Missionary Committee, Hospitality Committee, and Tuesday Morning Ladies Bible Study Group.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma Sharpe Sercer and George Sercer; her husband of 64 years J.D. Stokes, before his death in 2006; all her siblings and their spouses; grandson, Jason Schoonover; and great-grandson, Evan Fessler.
Survivors include her children, Royce and Durell Nease of Guyton, Joyce and Ray Parker of Guyton, and Floyd and Chrys Stokes of Acworth; grandchildren, John Schoonover and Tracy Ross of Dallas, TX, Christy and Sean Cribbs of Carmi, IL, Jennifer and Jeff Fessler of Guyton, Darla and Mike Hammond of Pooler, and Kristin and Joel Goodwin of Savannah; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Rincon First Christian Church with funeral services following at 3 p.m.
Interment will follow in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
