TOGETHER AGAIN

Mrs. Henrietta Garvin
Meldrim – Mrs. Henrietta Garvin, 68, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at her home in Meldrim, GA.
Mrs. Henrietta was born in Essex, MD to the late William Fred Norton and Sarah Elizabeth Schwinn Norton. She was the wife of the late William Hilton Garvin of 44 years. She lived in Bloomingdale 28 years then moved to Meldrim in 1990. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Garvin was a Girl Scout leader in Bloomingdale for 14 years and a former member of the Ash Street Baptist Church. She was currently a member of Meldrim United Methodist Church. She loved singing in the choir and was a member of the Meldrim United Methodist Women's group. Mrs. Garvin helped with the teen dances in the Bloomingdale years ago and was a senior lifesaver where she taught swimming lessons in the 1970's at the Travis Field Pool. She was very active with her grandchildren's school class parties, loved playing Bingo, making wood crafts with her husband and making other crafts at home and at church. Mrs. Garvin battled stage 4 breast cancer for 5 ½ years. She was also bedridden for the same amount of time but she never felt sorry for herself because her faith in God kept her strong. She has been an inspiration to all who came to see her. Hospice of Savannah has done a wonderful job. Everyone has been very loving and caring. Mrs. Garvin met a wonderful lady at church years ago, Mrs. Kathy McCann. Kathy has been a true and devoted friend. Not a Sunday or Tuesday had gone by that Mrs. Kathy hasn't been there for Mrs. Garvin and a lot of times in between.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Garvin Hales and Robert Hales, Jr. of Meldrim; granddaughters, Beth Slater Claybrook and Cory Claybrook of Satellite Beach, FL, Sarah Slater Flowers and Brent Flowers of Faulkville, GA; great-grandchildren, Camren and Carlee Claybrook, Caiden Flowers and Karter Flowers; special friend, Kathy McCann; beloved dog of 17 years, Macy and a host of other relatives.
The graveside service and burial was held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim with Chaplain Archie Seabrooks officiating and Rev. Dr. Edwin Willis. Music was provided by Mrs. Pat Durrence and Mrs. Bonnie McIver.
