Hilda "Granny Lynn" Dyess Cribbs
Springfield - Hilda "Lynn" Dyess Cribbs, 69, passed away surrounded by her family Monday, August 15th, at Candler Hospital in Savannah after a short illness.

Lynn was born in Statesboro, GA on October 24th, 1946. Raised in Claxton, GA. She graduated Class of '64 from Claxton High School. She went on to graduate from Memorial Hospital of Chatham County School of Nursing in 1967. As a Registered Nurse, she started her career at "old" Candler Hospital downtown Savannah before moving to St. Joseph Hospital. In 1985 she and her family moved to Effingham County, GA where she worked at Effingham County Hospital, Dr. Ray Gaskin's office, Advantage Home Health, finally back at Effingham County Hospital where she retired after approximately 40 years. Lynn started nursing in what she called the "Florence Nightingale days", when nurses who were all women wore caps & skirts. She broke the barrier in the early 70's when she made local news for being the first nurse ever in the region allowed to wear slacks setting the trend for nurses today. In retirement her sole focus was on her grandbabies who became her final life's work.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hugh & Hilda Dyess, her husband Reggie Cribbs, brother & sister in-law Joe & Gwen Webster, mother & father in-law Ellie and Ida Tapley.
She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Brian, Scott (Brenda), Mikell (Solitaire) & "adopted daughter" Theresa Raftery Wilkes. Grandchildren, Scott Jr. (Tape) Ansley, Briannah, Ellis and Cooper. Sisters, Janice (Bill) Adamson & Connie Durham. Nieces & nephews Dawn, Theresa, James, & Joey Webster, Heather Riggs Horton, Robert & Liz Gann. Life-long best friend Gayle Harn.
I lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to the Effingham County Animal Shelter in her honor.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. in the chapel.
Interment will be private.
